Special machine

In contrast to ordinary, standardised machines, the special machine is tailor-made to the customer's specifications.

In contrast to ordinary, standardised machines, the special machine is tailor-made to the customer's specifications.

Each industrial process has its own particularities and it is sometimes necessary to design a process specifically to its needs. For this purpose there are companies whose speciality is to assemble a multidisciplinary team to create customised industrial production machines. Among the skills needed to create special machines are project designers (mechanical, electrical and pneumatic), automation specialists, also known as roboticists, cable makers and sometimes also machinists.

The first step of the project is to gather the customer's needs. Depending on the expectations and the request, one or more proposals are made. Among the proposals, you may be offered a retrofit of a customer's machine to make it evolve towards the expected use.
There are many reasons for having a special machine made. It may be a question of adapting a function to an innovation in the company's use or product, automating a manufacturing process, modernising an old machine or repairing it, modifying the use of a machine or adapting it to new materials, or creating a test bench....

Special machines can be designed for all industrial sectors, whether it be for the automotive, aeronautical, pharmaceutical, textile, electronic or mechanical industries, etc.

Once the project has been selected, the teams of the company that manufactures special machines set to work for several weeks to several months, depending on the scale of the project.

Before it is used, it must be ensured that the new machine allows the operators to work in complete safety. For this purpose, special machines are subject to standards and controls such as the CE recognition for the European Union. This standard is identified as: 2006/42/EC for the construction of machinery. There is also an international standard ISO: 12100:2010 "Safety of machinery - General principles for design - Risk assessment and risk reduction".

It is recommended that the project is carried out by a company with at least one of these two labels.

Once the design is complete the machine is delivered and installed in the workshop. It may be necessary to adjust the settings of the machine in its environment during start-up.
