Industrial Terms and Techniques Glossary

Machining

Machining is a production process that remove material. This type of process contrast with additive manufacturing.

Metal Binder Jetting _ 3D metal printing

Metal Binder Jetting (MBJ) is a metal additive manufacturing technology also known as metal 3D printing.

Metrology

Metrology is the science of measure. It is used in the industry to define standards for production quality control.

Modelling, models and mould

The modelling is an activity of reproducing model at scale to produce pieces. The models are used as prints for mould which will be poured with foundry or composites.

Montage - Assembly

Montage and assembly are manual activities. The job consist an assembling parts of a complex element in order to obtain a subset or a whole product.

Packaging

the packaging process is envelopping a product in order to protect it during transportation and/or to give the product a marketting exposure and/or improve is conservation.

Plastic Injection or Injection Molding

To produce plastic pieces the injection molding is an efficient solution for large quantities. It allows to produce piece in mono or bi-material.

Polyester Composites

Composites material are composed of multiple distinct layers with strong grip between them. Composites base on polyester are composed of layers of gelcoat, glass fibers and resin.

Printing

To print is the action of transfering graphic elemement on a medium.

Rectification

Rectification technique work on metallic surfaces conditions. The machine used to proceed is a grinding machine. Grinding machines works on plane surfaces or cylindrical ones.

Retrofiting

Retrofitting is the process of modifying existing machines to make them evolve.

Running-in

Running-in is a finishing operation to obtain a solid and polish surface. This operation has the property to weatherproof contact between two different pieces.
